After being exhibited in Turin and Naples , the Christ of Michelangelo returned to Florence to be placed in the center of the sacristy of the Holy Spirit Church. The wooden work was sculpted as a sign of gratitude for the Augustinians who had hosted Michelangelo between the spring of 1493 and the fall of 1494, but it was attributed to the artist only in 1962 .
The new and central location of the work , absent in Florence since 2000, allows for greater observation space; The operation was realized thanks to the contribution of the non-profit Friends of Florence Foundation, with the approval of the Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendency for the metropolitan city of Florence and the provinces of Pistoia and Prato and with the technical supervision of the Structure of the Stones Dure.
We are happy to contribute to the enhancement of the Crucifix of Michelangelo and to the improvement of the Holy Spirit's sacristy - Simonetta Brandolini d'Adda emphasizes Friends of Florence - Our attention to the artist has always been high , Many of our donors are mindful of the preservation of their works, and this sensitivity does nothing but fuel the work of protecting and enhancing the art of the great master.
